Hunterdon Health and Healing Event to Benefit Victims of Hurricane Sandy
Save the Jersey Shore Partnering with Natural Awakenings Magazine and Health Ventures Plus
On Sunday, April 28th, the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse will provide a picturesque backdrop for the second annual Tri-State Health & Wellness Fair. Admission to the family-friendly event, which is produced by Health Ventures Plus and Natural Awakenings magazine, is free of charge, and features a wide range of activities and competitions - with 100% of the proceeds they generate benefiting victims of Super Storm Sandy.
Among the highlights of the Tri-State Health & Wellness Fair are hot-air balloon rides, a sports obstacle course, a 5K run, cooking and tasting demos, pilates and meditation by the lake, spinning classes, free medical screenings, a healthy food court, photo opportunities with the famous Clydesdales, and a healthy soup cook-off with a panel of judges led by Top Chef star Andrea Beaman. In other words, something for everyone.
"We are absolutely bowled over by the generosity of this group," says Warren Diamond, co-founder of theFoundation to Save the Jersey Shore. "Their efforts remind us that undoing what Sandy did is not just a 'shore thing' - it's a Jersey thing."
"This event is all about healing ourselves and healing our planet," adds Lori Tomenchok of Health Ventures Plus. "Organizations like Save the Jersey Shore are on the front lines of that effort this year, and we can't think of a better way to put the dollars we generate to work."
The Tri-State Health & Wellness Fair begins at noon, with start time for the 5K run two hours earlier, at 10:00 a.m. The Hunterdon Hills Playhouse is in Hampton, just a few miles north of Rte 78. There will easily be a full afternoon's worth of things to do and learn and taste and buy. Vendors at the event range from jewelry designers to holistic health products - including a half-dozen businesses from hard-hit shore communities in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
"I've spent every summer for 30 years at the Jersey Shore," says Tomenchok. "Who in this state - or in eastern Pennsylvania - doesn't have priceless memories from this devastated region? Here is a wonderful opportunity to give a little something back, to make a positive impact on neighbors in need, all while learning about positive changes you can make in your own life."
